Non Stick Coatings
against molten metals
Functional principle
The coating acts as a non-wetting, chemically inert separating layer between the component and the molten metal. Oxide ceramic surfaces are poorly wetted by liquid zinc, and no reaction layer forms. As a result, zinc neither adheres to the surface nor penetrates it. A dense microstructure with low, non-interconnected porosity is essential, since open pores would absorb melt and enable mechanical anchoring.

Application in the zinc bath
The coating protects components operating in molten zinc during hot-dip galvanizing (approx. 450 °C), in particular sink rolls, stabilizing rolls, snouts and pot hardware, as well as stirrers, pumps and guide elements. It is applied by thermal spraying of dense oxide ceramic layers onto steel or cast substrates.
